A return to form with our Florida Mutineers taking down the Vikings of the North. Lets get into it.

Checkmate Hardpoint | W 250 – 214

This game brought good feelings — MOST of the time. Starting strong side makes things easier aswell and FLA took advantage of the spawns well. They were able to keep P1 even and then hold out P2. We did push out and flip ROKKR in with about 20 seconds left which worked as it turned into a nice P3 spawn trap. From here the rotations were strong, like in the first hill rotations in their last match against Seattle. They shifted to P4 and were able to zone ROKKR out getting good time there and were able to hold it through the P5 rotation. At the end of first hill rotation we were up 158 to 61.

From P4 to P1 we get treated to another listen in with our boys. Couple quick notes on the listen in:

  • Vibes way up
  • Hectic in the beginning but Skyz and Slacked voices’ coming through a lot more. Calming down the chatter being a little more directory. Flow a lot more controlled

Another note, Skyz looked phenomenal this map. Decision making was very good and shots were on point. Think he was really feeling himself today. Ended the map 32 and 20.

ROKKR had strong side for P2 and must of watched our VOD from last match as they hard countered the deep blue spawn wrap. Because of this and the P2 MONEY time ROKKR gets itself back in the game. (161 – 150) At this point if your thinking back to last time we played this map your shaking in your seat as Seattle was able to roll 3 full 60s together into a W. Big plays from Skyz and Wake give us most of P3 time but we lose the P4 rotation.

Neptune gets a COD timing or hits an invisibility potion on top plane and we get a lucky break on P4. Unfortunately ROKKR spawns to Red Tower side and is able to prevent us from closing it out there. Had to close it out on a mixy P1 which I dislike, too much stress when you cant see hill time on the contest (devs have to fix that). But a map win is a map win. Onto search.

Express Search & Destroy | W 6 – 5

Skyz looks on today, saying it again, man was moving different on the maps. After winning round 1 a couple of big plays by ROKKR gave them 3 straight. This is where things really start to unravel if you cant find a round. Round 5 and BIG WAKE shuts down MajorManiak’s 1 v 3 attempt and unsettled the knot in my stomach. I thought he was gonna do it to us (side note fs in chat for Major another one hits the bench).

Going into round 6 Neptune is 2 – 5, lets remember that. We answer back with 3 rounds of our own and almost make it 4 getting the bomb down on B. However ROKKR put the clamps on surrounded us and then MajorManiak clutched up in the 1 v 1. Round 9 has Attach and MajorManiak making more great plays, getting info and hitting the pinch on the flank. Nerves are here, for me, the boys are ice. Need two rounds to pull it out.

Round 10 gets worked into a 2 v 2 and the plant gets us to a 1 v 1. Neptune vs Accuracy with bomb planted. Neptune defends the sight big play from the rookie and forces round 11. Florida on Defense, both sides send 3 to A and Priestahh comes out on top of the 2 for 1 trade. Skyz at this point has wrapped all the way around and taken out Accuracy playing top window. Priestahh forces the 1 v 1 but Skyz finds the timing and seals the deal round 11.

Checking back in Neptune ends 12 and 8. Skyz 12 and 7. BUILT DIFFERENT.

Checkmate Control | W 3 – 1

I still hate Checkmate.

Round 1 defense starts pretty standard, consistent trading no big map control taken. ROKKR is able to get a single tick of B and then is able to almost fully capture A until Skyz gets a last second 2 piece on the hill to stop the progress. (Built different) Slacked takes the opportunity and presses the spawn trap popping off on a 5 streak to run the clock down to 25 seconds until ROKKR gets a break and is able to complete the last tick on A. The round gets drawn all the way out to a 2 v 2 which Slacked is able to hold out. Not the greatest D, but a real heartbreaker to ROKKR.

Round 2 offense we start with a similar strategy to last match. Slow team clear up the map, take the 50 yard line and make sure no one gets behind us. We get a tick on A before the trades start coming but we do a good job maintaining that 50 yard line. However we cant get any more progress from there and lose the round. Even death counts to this point.

Round 3 trades start quickly and when they see the advantage Neptune and Slacked are able to push forward and press the ROKKR spawns deep. Great teamplay on this defense, subs pressed up in spawn cutting off reinforcements trusting ARs to clear out the hill and we win the round and grab a 6 kill lead for that last round defense.

Round 4 we are able to contest the mid point but it takes a while before we can get progress going. Slacked goes off this round starting with a 4 streak. We are able to trade out until a 4 down and triple stack on A to give us the time. Skyz gets 3 on right wing to give us two tics a progress on B and it becomes a feed fest. All strategy stops, run straight, run fast, contest, trade. Mutineers win. No need for death counts.

THE GOOD:

  • Skyz looked different today. Movement and decision making on point. And was a more prevalent voice in listen in which is essential to success moving forward
  • Neptune is filthy at COD ( I might have to say this every game) He makes great space and is a demon on the map.
  • Slacked performed exceptionally in the control. I think Slacked gets too much hate and if they can organize the system I think he fits well.

THE BAD:

  • Still signs of letting teams make runs in Hardpoints. They should not be this close.
  • Are we a control team or playing weak control teams? Time will tell.

Great win to even up the record. I’m seeing glimpses of what I think this team can become. Hoping by end of season they can really get hardpoints locked down and they can be back in the Top 4 conversation.
