BIG Match for the boys against the Green Wall. HUGE tone-setter. Let’s get into it.

Coming into this match, I can’t even lie to you I am nervous. We have our boys the Mutineers fresh off a win, feeling a little confidence against the currently slumping top dogs in OpTic Chicago. A win sets us on the path to winners bracket and shows some serious improvement in the squad. A loss, casts some doubts.

Raid Hardpoint | W 250 – 221

The vast majority of this hardpoint left me feeling on edge. OpTic controlled the flow of the games consistently through the first rotations and continued to generally dictate the pace of the game. We were able to keep it close by having successful team breaks around the midpoint of hills and a series of scrappy plays throughout the game. Neptune’s stats didn’t show it in the end but he made some crucial contests and I thought was playing the right way on most of the map. Things kind of unraveled near the end after getting killed off spawn and some contest sprinting deaths.

OpTic wasn’t zoning efficiently in my opinion and Merk points it out at one point in his cast. We were able to take advantage of that multiple times and conduct clean team breaks. Now let me take you to the deciding moment in this game.

P4 pops and Florida have control of Jungle and the hill. OpTic works a split push two laundry, two mid. Our boy BIG WAKE goes huge gets both kills laundry, slides into kitchen, and gets two more using both guns. This is to shutdown Scump’s use of the artillery UAV ping to try and seal the break into P4. BIG WAKE then proceeds to keep himself cooking and turn on for an 8 streak which he uses perfectly to set up and hold P5 to seal and steal the game from OpTic Chicago.

Checkmate Search & Destroy | W 6 – 5

This was a long search. Maybe because Checkmate makes me dread every second of it, but a dubs a dub. We take these. I won’t speak long on this one, just the highlights. Like Slacked’s 1 v 2 clutch in round 1.

Neptune hitting a great flank getting 2/3 and Skyz clutching the 1 v 1 vs Formal.

Slacked ninja defusing OpTic on B Bomb 4 v 4.

Slow and then hectic round 11 with a 2 Piece from Skyz to seal the round.

Checkmate Control | W 3 – 2

Round 1 defense was about as standard as you could hope. Kept map control and OpTic had no real push.

Round 2 offense we full rushed B off spawn which surprised me a bit. In the past few matches, we have had success slow clearing across the map as a team but they might have been playing a tendency. We got cleaned up quickly, responded with a 4 down, and were able to keep it a little interesting but OpTic closed out the contests and won the round.

Round 3 starts poorly as we drop 4 down off spawn and concede the A zone quickly. OpTic captures A with an 8 life lead and two minutes on the clock. We lose the initial battles out mid but are eventually able to retake map control and grind down the OpTic life advantage down to 4 as we lose the round.

Round 4 starts with some early mid-control until OpTic gets three down and sets up to lock in the map. Neptune goes huge with a 3 piece and gives the boys a chance to roll back in and maintain map control allowing us to capture B in the final seconds.

The guys then do a great job regrouping in spawn, getting 3 down and flooding the map to take control and capture A sending us to a round 5.

Round 5 OpTic gets a quick 4 down and captures the A zone, however they fail to stack B and get any progress there in the transition period. Slacked makes a big play pushing up to the yellow crates and forces deep spawns to burn some time and map control. Round ends up coming down to the wire with some big nade kills to open up OpTic’s mid pressure and another great 2 Piece by Slacked to seal the game.

THE GOOD:

  • BIG WAKE is an absolute menace
  • Neptune despite not having a crazy stat day played well and had good impact
  • Slacked was making plays and is definitely proving why he belongs on this team
  • Skyz seems to get better every match. I think he will be this teams real x factor

THE BAD:

  • Just to keep us humble, OpTic is slumping hard right now but other than that Im not taking anything away from this great match

Onto Empire
